LPN Outpatient Wound Care HBO - No Nights, Weekends, or On Call

Job Description The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), provides patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or licensed physician.
This position may also act in the dual role of Hyperbaric LPN (HLPN).
In addition to responsibilities of the Outpatient Wound Care LPN, the HLPN acts as the attendant and control operator of the hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) chamber under the direction of the HBO physician and HBO Registered Nurse.
Job Duties Patient Care Under the direct supervision of a licensed RN, and/or physician, the licensed practical nurse provides clinical care to designated patients.
Following clinical practice guidelines, observes and implements nursing care based on the patient's assessed clinical needs.
Demonstrates proficiency in the administration of medication and wound care treatments.
Documents care provided utilizing the forms as required completely and accurately.
Maintains current skills, knowledge and competencies in chronic wound care.
For the HLPN:
Understands the role of HBO therapy, including approved clinical indications, contraindications and treatment protocols for HBO treatment.
Monitors and ensures the proper delivery of the HBO treatment Monitors patient during HBO treatments for adverse reactions and appropriately intervenes by following established protocols.
Patient Safety Responsible for preparing and administering medications and wound care treatments in the prescribed dosage, route and frequency and observing, recording and reporting responses, untoward reactions and side effects of therapy.
Utilizes and implements current safety practices and procedures to ensure safe delivery of care.
Organizes and prioritizes work to provide patient care in a safe environment.
For the HLPN:
Applies basic knowledge about HBO chamber operations to ensure efficacy of treatment and safety of the patient and those in immediate area.
Communicates appropriate patient care information to the HBO Physician, case managers and office staff through team meetings, clinical documentation and utilization of scheduling and software programs.
Performs hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance and documentation of such as required.
Participates in safety drills and education for the hyperbaric program.
Reports malfunction of equipment to appropriate personnel.
Quality/Patient Experience Participates in and utilizes performance improvement to positively impact patient outcomes.
Monitors and evaluates quality of care with focus on patient safety and nurse sensitive indicators by identifying areas for improvement and assists in development of action plans.
Demonstrates knowledge of Patient Experience goals and expectations to meet customer needs in a positive and professional manner.
Utilizes ICare values in all interactions.
Personal Growth and Competency Maintains licensure/certification and completes all mandatory classes, MID, leadership development education, in-service programs, and programs intended to enhance skills pertinent to assigned clinical areas.
Participates in unit/department/health system committees/councils, as assigned.
Stays current related to unit/department/health system activities, policy and procedure changes, regulatory requirements, and KBN regulations.
For the HLPN:
Pursues certification in HBO as experience allows.
Financial Responsibility:
Supports in maintaining budget(s) within established target(s) by assisting with setting priorities, appropriately allocating resources, and completing charges.
Supports the department and health system financial and productivity goals by utilizing supplies and resources in a cost-effective manner, facilitating patient throughput, documenting thoroughly and consistently, and being on time and productive.
Qualifications Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Graduate from approved school of practical nursing, licensed to practice nursing in the state where work is being performed.
As HLPN, able to complete or completion of Undersea Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS) approved HBO Team Training Course.
Specialized Knowledge:
Knowledgeable regarding basic wound care principles and practices.
As HLPN, able to complete or completion of Undersea Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS) approved HBO Team Training course.
Kind and Length of
Experience:
Successful completion of preceptorship and orientation to the health system and clinical area.
Able to think critically and problem solve in clinical situations.
Two years current clinical nursing experience.
